  • I have the worst luck

com&GT1=mandieland">. And I have to say- this year, it has been an absolute shocker for me. For starters my exam timetable wasn't the nicest- an exam tuesday afternoon, wednesday morning, and then friday morning in the first week. Then one exam in the last week on the Thursday (2 days ago) that was on half the content, was going to be a relatively easy exam and I really didn't need the whole amount of time to study for. I wish it had've been swapped with one of the other subjects. This was the first year I did a psyc subject. I made a real effort- I listened in all the lectures, and I was on full marks going into the exam. (40 out of the 100 possible percent for the subject). I had studied, felt like I knew the content reasonably well, and didn't feel too panicky about the exam. But when I got in there, I was in shock. There were all these questions about the specific people who had come up with these different theories"what was such and such's theory of emotion), and I hadn't bothered to learn names. There were so many of them, that I just assumed knowing the class of theory, and the general concepts of the theory would be enough. It seemed it wasn't. Also, a bunch of questions were asking for evidence about how different people supported their theories experimentally. Underneath a bunch of the questions it said (Not"with lesions"). What is that supposed to mean? Lesion studies were the only piece of evidence I could think of for some of those studies- I could've talked about them till the cows came home. Did that mean"you can't use lesion studies as evidence at all" , or did it mean"if you say lesion studies, elaborate on the point". Of course, the lecturer wasn't there, so there was no-one to ask. Its not like the exam supervisors would be any help in a matter like that. So I ended up putting a little bit of info about lesion studies at the end, and making up other studies that I wasn't even sure about for those people. And on the questions I should have known, I messed them up- everything mixed itself up in my head, and I couldn't concentrate very well. I have to say, I'm really concerned I might have failed that exam- and that's pretty bad considering I only needed 10 out of the 60 percent the exam was worth. Cross your fingers for my guys. Well, the exam that I actually had more than 3 days to study for I was feeling relatively prepared for. I had close to full marks going into the subject, and was fairly confident I could pull a 7 for it (which i think i'll really need considering that psyc exam). Then, on the day of the exam (exam at 5:45pm), I woke up as normal, and as soon as  I sat up everything started spinning. I made my way to the bathroom and was throwing up for the next 3 or so hours. There was nothing in my stomach, and I could barely keep down even water. Poor Bec, who only had one day between exams to study for this one (she had prepared for it earlier) had to take me to the doctor. I lay there in sick bay, and a nurse gave me a shot to stop the vomiting. The doctor wrote me a medical certificate excusing me from the exam. Unfortunately, supplementary exams are held in July. And I'm going to be overseas then. So I contacted the course coordinator for the subject. She was really nice about it and contacted the admin people about the situation. Apparently, there was nothing I could do. In rare instances, they'll let you sit the exam overseas (at a fee- who knows how much!), provided you can find a suitable institution to supervisethe exam. The only other option was to withdraw without academic penalty, which they said they'd let me do. There was no way I was going to do that, so I ended up sitting the exam, even though I was sick. It was terrible. Luckily, that shot had me feeling okay for it. Yesterday I felt like a truck had hit me. I ate a little in the morning, but felt sick from it. I pretty much lay in bed all day. I ate some toast that night, but it didn't stay down. Today, I 'm still not great, but a little better. Hopefully I'll feel better soon.   . Well, thankfully, exam period is over
